WORKSHOP - Saturday, May 8
WORKSHOP INFORMATION
The workshop schedule:
- Watersheds and MWEE session provided by Friends of the Rappahannock – about 2 hours
- Working Brunch – distribute materials, discuss future work
- Nature Journaling introduction and practice – about 1.5 hours
The entire session will be held outside and will involve some short walks. You’ll need to wear comfortable, foot covering walking shoes, and hats and mosquito spray are recommended. Drinks (water, fruit juice) and snacks (energy bars) will be provided as well as a brunch. Notebooks, clipboards, pencils, are all provided as part of the Nature Journaling kit. You don’t need to bring a laptop or tablet. Cell phone coverage will depend on your provider – Verizon seems to work well, but other services don’t.
Download the free iNaturalist app, a great resource for identifying plants. You take a picture, upload, and iNaturalist gives you suggested identifications. It’s free and will work with both Apple and Android phones. Even if you can’t get access from the CNRC site, you can still take a picture of the unknown plant and upload it later.
COVID-19 Information – the entire session will be outside and we will follow social distancing guidelines. Some of us have been fully vaccinated and can follow the new CDC guidelines, but others may not have been so please maintain social distancing if you are not wearing a mask.
Please bring any sketches or examples of journaling you or your students have done. We will photograph them and put them up on the project website. The sketches above are from students in Paige Lloyd's (Fredericksburg City Schools), Patty Rosnick's (Fredericksburg Academy), and Amtulnoor Grosser's ( Garrisonville Elementary, Stafford) classes. You can see more student work in the STUDENT WORK section of this website.
