REVERSED IMAGE FROM YOUR DOC CAM?

Some folks have noticed that, when using the OkiocamS doc cam for conferencing, what you see on your screen is reversed – a mirror image.  Most of the time this is due to a pre-set in the videoconferencing software (Zoom, for example.)  One important thing to remember is that the people you are presenting to see a normal, non-mirrored image.  It is annoying though when you are sharing documents or images and, to you, everything is reversed.  The Okiocam website provides a good explanation here:

Seeing Mirrored Video? Click here – OKIOLABS (zendesk.com)

 In short, the reason is:

“Even though it can seem unusual and unnecessary that while video conferencing, the video in your preview window is mirrored, there is an explanation for it, and it is not a fault with your OKIOCAM. Video conferencing applications do this because, in general, it is easier to adjust your position in the frame and it is more natural to view yourself mirrored (like how your reflection looks back at you in a mirror). Most video conferencing applications will mirror your camera in the preview window by default. However, anybody who you are transmitting your video to will see the non-mirrored video.”

There are a couple of ways to fix this.  The first is to change the setting in your videoconferencing software.  The website linked above gives you a link with instructions for this.  For Zoom:

Step 1. Click on the Settings icon in the top right corner.

Step 2. Click Video.

Step 3. Deselect the checkbox to the left of Mirror my video.

Step 4. Exit the Settings menu by clicking on the close icon in the top right corner.

The second way is to download and install the OKIOCAM Snapshot and Recorder software.  It’s free and does not mirror video in the preview window. Therefore, if your chosen video conferencing application supports screen sharing, you can share the non-mirrored video displayed in OKIOCAM Snapshot and Recorder.  The link for downloading and installing this software is near the bottom of the page in the link above – scroll down to User Manual Downloads and get the guide for: OKIOCAM+Snapshot+and+Recorder+Installation+Guide_v21M.pdf (okiolabs-downloads.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com)
