Additional materials for working outside

Index cards - students may use these in addition to their journals.  The cards allow students to keep records of objects they've seen while nature journaling.  Teachers may also collect these cards for a class record of a field trip or outside work.
  • Object card.  Object cards are index cards that allow students to keep records (text and drawings) of interesting things they've found outside.  This file is set for printing 4" x 6" index cards
  • Tree card.  Tree cards are index cards that allow students to keep records (drawings, text, leaf drawings, bark rubbings) of different trees they've seen while journaling.
Pond description form - this form provides template for site descriptions while visiting a pond.

Pond Mini-beast identification form - a visual guide to common organisms found in ponds.

River Information sheet - basic information about the Rappahannock River.

Fracking Diagram - a simple diagram explaining the Fracking process.

Henry the Heron story - a PDF version of the Henry the Heron litter story, referred to in the Grade 1 Science Standards of Learning (older version) Enhanced Scope and Sequence, pg. 49 -51.  This guide, while no longer current has some great resources for teaching about environmental issues, and can be found here.

I Spy cards - Cards for objects (plants, animals, people) that may be seen along the Rappahannock River.
